Renegade Sisters: Portraits of Defiance

 Exhibition trailer:

As a reminder that gender dynamics and societal norms can still be challenged, my first solo exhibition Renegade Sisters: Portraits of Defiance debuted at The Nottingham Society of Artists, 71-73 Friar Lane, Nottingham NG1 6DH from Tuesday 12th to Sunday 17th November 2024.

This exhibition brought together the lives of diverse women living today who were inspired by those that fearlessly paved their own way amidst traditional patriarchal structures, sometimes meeting sticky ends. Women such as Joan of Arc, Empress Wu and Mary Shelley who refused to conform to societal expectations.

Through the lens of art, I aim to honour the resilience, wisdom, and indomitable spirit that is alive today in all of the women that sat for each portrait. This exhibition is as much about these contemporary women as the historical figures that inspired them, including thought-provoking quotes from both the models and the historical renegades.
