Renegade Sisters Exhibition
Renegade Sisters: Portraits of Defiance
As a reminder that gender dynamics and societal norms can still be challenged, my first solo exhibition Renegade Sisters: Portraits of Defiance will be on display at The Nottingham Society of Artists, 71-73 Friar Lane, Nottingham NG1 6DH from Tuesday 12th to Sunday 17th November 2024.
This fine art exhibition brings together the lives of diverse women living today who have been inspired by those that fearlessly paved their own way amidst traditional patriarchal structures.
Scheduled to open on 12th November 2024, Renegade Sisters promises to ignite dialogue and inspire change as it pays homage to feminine rebellion through painting and drawing. Each piece in this exhibition serves as a rallying cry for anyone struggling to find a unique path in life.
Renegade Sisters is inspired by the achievements and legacy of women such as Joan of Arc, Empress Wu and Mary Shelley who refused to conform to societal expectations. These women challenged conventional narratives, celebrating the strength, resilience, and complexity of the female experience.
I am absolutely thrilled to present Renegade Sisters, an exhibition that amplifies the voices of women who dared to defy the status quo. Through this exhibition, I want to spark conversations about gender, power, and agency that still affect women today, while celebrating the unapologetic spirit of defiance and rebellion.
Through the lens of art, I aim to honour the resilience, wisdom, and indomitable spirit that is alive today in all of the women that sat for each portrait. This exhibition is as much about these contemporary women as the historical figures that inspired them.
